About the Dualmode Zoom/FaxModem 56K, 56Kv, and 56Kx

The Zoom/FaxModem 56K Dualmode models are high-speed V.90 voice faxmodems with the ability to receive data from compatible sites at speeds up to 56,000 bps, and at higher speeds with compression.* They incorporate both the V.90 ITU 56K Standard and K56flex, the most widely supported non-ITU 56K technology, to achieve download speeds nearly twice as fast as any conventional analog modem. That means fast access to the Internet, World Wide Web, and local area networks (LANs) over standard phone lines.

Dualmode models automatically connect in ITU V.90 mode, K56flex mode, 33.6 Kbps, or any other ITU International or Bell standard speed to achieve the fastest, most reliable connection possible. They feature reprogrammable Digital Signal Processors (DSPs) and flash memory for downloading updates for all modem code, including DSP and Controller code. All models include Plug and Play for easy installation.

Dualmode faxmodems provide high-quality voice mail when used with a soundcard. They also have both Class 1 14.4 Kbps send/receive fax for convenient printer-quality faxing to any faxmodem or fax machine. You can even "broadcast" your faxes to multiple recipients, schedule fax transmission, or forward them to another number.

All Zoom Dualmode models include V.80 capability for compatibility with H.324 Standard point-to-point videotelephony over regular phone lines and also support H.323 Internet applications including video conferencing.

The 56Kv model also has built-in Zoom/Video live-motion color video capture hardware and a Zoom/Video Cam jack, so you can just plug in a Zoom/Video Cam digital camera (sold separately). The Zoom/Video Cam provides high-quality, full-color video and still image capture, which can be transmitted over standard phone lines or the Internet, or used in desktop publishing or Web design applications.** You can record and send video mail complete with a "player" application, which enables it to be viewed by any recipient without special video hardware or software.

Additional features of all Dualmode models include Distinctive Ring*** support to automatically route voice, fax and data calls, and ZoomGuard lightning protection. ZoomGuard provides superior protection against lightning, the number one cause of modem failure. ZoomGuard is not only better than the "varistor" protection found on other modems, but it also outperforms most stand-alone surge protectors.

* 56K provides speeds significantly higher than 33,600 bps for over 80% of local phone lines. Typical speeds range between 42 and 54 Kbps (the current limit set by the FCC).

** Sound with video requires a soundcard with microphone input, ITU H.323-compliant software for Internet or network applications including video conferencing, H.324-compliant software for point-to-point videotelephony over regular phone lines, and the appropriate computer and operating system to run the application. Real-time video requires compatible softrware at both ends and a P133 or faster PC. Video mail requires a P90 or faster PC. When installing the Zoom/Video Cam you will need a second available interrupt, an available DMA channel, and Windows 95 or later.
